The program has a number of required courses some of which are offered in July/August and others during the Fall and Spring semesters.
The summer courses are PHY510 which is offered in July each year and PHY620/PHY622 which are offered in alternate years in August.
PHY500 is offered in the spring semester. Once PHY500 has been completed the student does a master’s project in PHY690.
In addition to the required courses above there are nine credits of electives from:
PHY518, PHY520, PHY525, SCI527, SCI632, SCI664, and SCI685.
There are additional courses in Exceptional Education and Educational Psychology (6 cr), Literacy and Reading un the Content Areas (6 cr), and mentored teaching (3 cr). There are also state tests and workshops required by NYSED for all initial teacher certification.
The length of time a student takes to complete the requirements varies greatly depending on the students circumstances. The shortest time possible 4 semesters including two summers in which to take PHY620 and PHY622. In general students take the electives over a longer period.
