Education and Outreach at Perimeter Institute
Dr. Damian Pope & Kevin Donkers
Located in Waterloo, Ontario, Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics is a research organization devoted to fundamental physics. The Institute is an independent, non-profit, research institute whose mission is to make breakthroughs in the understanding of our universe and the forces that govern it. The areas of study include string theory, quantum gravity, particle physics, cosmology, quantum information and condensed matter physics. The institute also houses a dedicated Educational Outreach Department devoted to sharing the excitement of modern physics with the wider community. This includes creating a suite of professionally produced high school resources, conducting workshops for teachers worldwide, staging large-scale public science festivals and hosting international physics summer camps for youth. This presentation will outline some of Perimeter’s outreach activities, what we’ve learnt along the way and some of our underlying philosophy towards outreach.
