Why Physics at Buffalo State?

Scholarships

With the deactivation of its programs, Buffalo State Physics is phasing out scholarships once used to recruit majors, with eligility restricted to current physics students. The department offers a Learning Assistantship program, allowing students to train and serve as peer instructors in physics courses they have taken.

Serving the Buff State Community

The Physics Department offers a variety of introductory courses to serve students from diverse backgrounds.

Physics degree programs have been deactivated (May 2025). The department is no longer accepting physics majors or minors and expects to teach out all current students by 12/31/2027.

Small Class Sizes

Buffalo State offers small class sizes promoting more one-on-one interactions between students and professors. Almost all classes (including intro physics!) are capped at 24 students.
